Frances Fontaine, known for her vibrant colors and use of illuminating light, grew up in Shreveport, La., spent summers as a child on Santa Rosa Island and was captivated by the beauty of the Gulf Coast. She has been drawing and painting water and wildlife ever since. Having exhibited in a number of group shows, shown in galleries in Shreveport, New Orleans, Fairhope and Orange Beach, Al., Jackson, Nachez and Bay St. Louis, Ms. and completed many private commissions, Frances can be found at her home in New Braunfels, Tx., painting daily in her studio. Interested in art since she was a young girl, Frances considers herself mostly self-taught. After teaching Art in public schools for 25 years and raising three children, she has retired to devote herself to painting full-time. Her paintings are influenced by the variety and beauty surrounding us in nature. Living and painting now in New Braunfels, Tx., Frances tries to capture her love of nature through a joyous use of color and light. On being an artist….I don’t take myself too seriously. It has to be fun or I’m probably not interested. I rise early, get my coffee and favorite doggie…head to my studio, look for something so beautiful it makes my heart happy, try to put it on canvas with thick, juicy strokes. Painting with 6 friends once a week or more, walks along the Guadalupe River…a dream come true! Hope my paintings make your heart happy, too!
